He is evacuated to the Beaufort War Hospital in Bristol, England. In a letter to the Lilydale MUIOOF – ‘The fact was that up till a few weeks ago I have been leading the strenuous life and hardly had time or opportunity to even write home. That is up till January 15^th, when I was foolish enough to get in the road of a piece of shrapnel’.
