Shoeing-Smith Walter Thompson (Wandin) 2^nd Field Company Engineers: With his son William having been killed in action the year before, he makes a special application to return home stating: ‘Upon the loss of my son, the sole support of my wife and five children has fallen upon my shoulders. My wife at present is greatly worried owing to the loss of our son and financial difficulties and my absence’. He is supported by his Commanding Officer and he is sent home the next month.
