Trp Bert Hutchinson (Lilydale), 4th Light Horse Regiment: In camp in Moascar, Egypt. In a letter to his future wife, Jessie Mackenzie of Yalca, Vic –‘We have no idea how long we will stay here but we are all hoping to return home shortly. I have not been on leave to Ismailia since we arrived but intend visiting the city in a few days’ time. We did not visit Beirut or Haifa but I will not apply for leave to visit these places.
At the present time we have a parade before breakfast and have the remainder of the day to ourselves unless we happen to be on duty. Quite a number of the boys left here a few days ago on the Port Sydney so I expect the regiments will leave next. It must seem a long time since the armistice was signed and those at home will be anxious for our return but all things come to those who wait’.
