The following local soldiers arrive back in Australia from Europe on the HT Pakeha:

Capt Roland Wild MC (Kilsyth),2^nd Pioneer Battalion

Pte Ernest Smith (Yering), 3^rd Pioneer Battalion

Pte Victor Campbell (Silvan), 1^st Divisional Train

Pte Frank Poyner (Lilydale), 6^th Battalion

Pte Alfred Blanksbyx (Wandin), 8^th Battalion

Pte Frank Rance (Wandin), 5^th Battalion: In August he had been charged with twelve months’ detention for being absent without leave for six months while in England. He had been removed from the Lewes Detention Barracks and sent home on this ship and as soon as he arrived in Australia he was immediately discharged. Because of this he was deemed ineligible for war medals, even though he had been wounded in action twice in 1918.
