Pte Joseph Keeley Jnr (Mooroolbark), 3^rd Pioneer Battalion: For his actions on this day he is awarded the Military Medal. His recommendation states: ‘On the morning of the 6th September, 1918, to the South of Tincourt, No. 2584 Private Joseph Henry Keeley was engaged on a patrol keeping touch with the Platoon on the northern side of the river. This portion was exceedingly difficult, owing to the wooded and marshy nature of the land, which was also strongly held by the enemy with machine guns and snipers. Private Keeley showed great courage and coolness during these operations, maintaining touch throughout. He himself, during this work, inflicted casualties on the enemy, and he set a fine example to the remainder of the men with him’.
